COPPA for parents

CombatScore is COPPA-compliant. The short version: children under 13 cannot have their own account on CombatScore. They can only exist as managed-kid profiles under a parent or guardian who controls every aspect of the account.

The two-tier minor model

CombatScore distinguishes two age bands:

Under 13. Strict COPPA mode.

• Profile is private and cannot be made public.
• No social features (no DMs, no public posts, no partner matching).
• Parent does everything: signs waivers, logs sessions, edits the profile, signs membership.
• Gyms see only what's needed for class operations (name, belt, attendance).
• No analytics or behavioral data collection beyond what's required for the product to function.

13–17. Restricted minor mode.

• Profile is private by default; parent can choose to publish.
• Social features unlock with parent approval.
• Minor can sign in directly (if parent approves) with limited capabilities.
• Parent still has full override authority.

The cutoff is based on date of birth at signup. The age band updates automatically when the kid has a birthday.

What you (the parent) control

For every kid you manage:

• Identity. Display name, photo, DOB, gender.
• Memberships. Which gyms they're at, the waivers.
• Sessions. Log on their behalf. Edit or delete any past session.
• Promotions. Belt and stripe history.
• Profile visibility (13+ only).
• Right to delete — see Deleting a child's data.

You can revoke the gym's view of the kid at any time.

What gyms see

For an under-13 kid:

• Name, belt, attendance.
• Waiver status (signed by guardian).
• That's it. No phone, no contact info, no behavioral data.

For a 13+ kid:

• The above, plus whatever the kid (with parent approval) has added to their profile.

When the kid turns 18

They can claim their account. See Aged-out claim for the flow. You lose write access; the kid becomes a normal adult athlete.
